Azalea House Bed & Breakfast is very well located. The room and bathrooms were simple decorated and clean. They provide us with towels. The breakfast is not very good, for the price that we payed, it could have more variarity.
Me and my husband needed a last minute place to stay for an event we were participating in on Shelter Island. The Azalea House was available and we decided to try it. |If you have read the other reviews, you will see that this B&B is run European style. For many travels in the US, this kind of accommodations can be a little disconcerting. I personally really liked it. When we got there, the hostess/owner showed us our room, answered any questions we had and gave us our key. After that, we were left to our own devices. The room was clean and the bathroom was stocked with all the basics. I really love how Shelter Island is all about the local business. As far as I could tell, there is not a single chain store/hotel on the island. If you are looking for a laid back, homey place to stay, The A
My friend and I stayed here during mid-week in August. We arrived late in the evening on the 11pm ferry. The house was very easy to find and our names were left on the door of our room. The decor is a bit dated, but I found it to be part of the charm. As another reviewer mentions, this guesthouse is run in the European style. The hosts are not intrusive and are rarely seen. However, they also run a local taxi service, so we did see and speak to them on occasion. Ana gave us a wonderful beach recommendation on Hays Beach, where you don't need a permit.||||Breakfast was minimal, but always laid out on time and was good. Our room was very clean and a corner room, next to the upstairs balcony. We noticed another room had a TV, which ours did not, but the room was good sized and very quiet. |||
The Azalea House is a very pricey bed and sort-of breakfast located on a tree lined street in central Shelter Island. As you enter there is a small foyer with two closed doorways, a stairway, and a small parlor to the right. The bedrooms are up the stairway. The furnishings are old, worn, and mundane. The room, bath, hallway, and parlor was clean. The parlor had a small couch and chairs, but this is also where you would have to sit to have the continental breakfast.||I never saw any owners or housekeepers while I was there, and my knock on the door to the main household went unanswered. When you leave there is a handwritten note with the amount of your balance, due in cash or a check.||There seems to be a half dozen places to park in the driveway or in front of the house.||The continental
Imagine you are a college student off for the summer and touring Europe. Hostels are what you seek. Azalea House is a basic bed and breakfast steeped finely in Scandinavian tradition and modeled after European basic accommodations. It is this basic premise that makes Azalea house so attractive to the non-pretentious traveler. John Kaasick is an award winning playwright that has sought refuge with his wife Anu on Shelter Island. They own and operate what is the best value for accommodations on Shelter Island. I am pleased to write a glowing and very positive review for these folks.||||Due to some scheduling conflicts (we had family drop in on us from Australia) I had to change my reservation at Azalea house. I was quite nervous as the details are very important to me and I was anxiou
