Azai Hand Roll Sushi

Adorable little sushi/hand roll bar. One of the better quality sushi options in mid-city. Price was right and staff were great. We got some nigiri but the hand rolls are where it is at - do not miss! Definitely will be back!

Wow, I wish I knew about Azai sooner. My partner and I walked in for a last minute lunch on Christmas day. What stood out to us was how fresh and generous their portions are. Even their dessert mochi is flown in from Japan! Service is excellent. Efficient, warm, and very welcoming. At one point, we received an extra yellowtail handroll that we didn’t order. Our server made sure was taken care of and that it was on the house. Special shoutout to Adam for making our holiday extra special! If you’re in the area, make sure to stop by.

The food is very good. Freshest fish, good rice, crispy nori. Also their iced green tea is delish. The praise stops about here. I was taken a little aback when I walked in, a few minutes after they opened, prob 11:35ish, and the firs thing the manager / waiter did was look at his watch to make sure it was past 11:30. That felt incredibly inhospitable. Had it been 11:28 he would have told me to wait outside two more minutes? At the end comes the bill. The whole 16% surcharge feels wrong, not because of the reason why, but because it's basically a hidden fee. Just bake it into the menu cost, instead of making us believe that a $7 hand-roll is a $6 hand-roll, but one dollar will be added on the bill. It's just plain scammy. Absolutely lipsmacking sushi ! I loved the eel and the toro with fresh wasabi. They just melted in the mouth ! The handrolls were delish ! Kudos to the Chef and Adam was impeccable with his hospitality and service. I am super picky about my sushi and I devoured them all ! Would recommend it 200 %

Quality of the fish is impeccable! We’re visiting LA and found this place through google search and so glad we tried it out. Adam and his crew were amazing!
