AZ Family Halal Restaurant

Another 5 star review! AZ is a hidden gem on the southeast side. The chef/owner (I presume) was very friendly, accommodating, and conversational. The restaurant is nicely appointed and clean. We split an order of samosas and a rice biriyani with chicken. The star of the show was the biriyani, the best I've ever had... And I'm comparing it to some pretty good biriyanis I've had at various Indian restaurants over the years. Every bite was simply amazing. Since we opted for the chicken, there was a drumstick and a thigh, both hidden under the rice, and both fall-off-the-bone tender and flavorful. It also came with a side of very spicy crunchy fried onions which complimented the biriyani well. We visited AZ Family Halal Restaurant in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and had such a wonderful experience. We ordered the chicken biriyani and goat biriyani—both were absolutely out of this world. The food was so delicious that we completely forgot to take any pictures! Portion sizes are generous, and the owner was incredibly friendly. He even sat with us to help us choose from the menu, which made the whole experience feel warm and home-like. Our toddlers were thrilled too—they received candies from the owner’s children! The environment is very clean, including the sparkling bathrooms, and we loved that the restaurant even has a dedicated space for prayers. All in all, it’s a fantastic place, and we highly recommend it.

This is such a hidden gem! I travel all over Indiana for work and when I have time, I will try new places/food I’ve never tried. I had the Baryani Chicken which was wildly flavorful. This was my first experience at a Halal restaurant and I will definitely be back whenever I can. I’m really excited to try different things! The owner was also very kind and helpful. Highly recommend!

Wonderful family-run restaurant, the food was outstanding. The samosas were crisp and light, the biryani was excellent. Very much like having someone from Myanmar invite you into their home for meal, we had a nice conversation with the proprietor.

The owner was a delight explaining and helping us choose our entrees. It is a wonderful mixture of Burmese, Indian, and Thai food. We had delightful food: homemade soups that were so vitamins/mineral rich!!!! DELICIOUS! We tried goat coffee and Burmese tea… WOW!
