Ay Jalisco

Excellent food at a good price. The decor is pretty good too. They have a red sauce on the entrees we ordered which was very good as well. I thought it enhanced the flavor quite a bit. Excellent service too. Large portions. You won't leave hungry.

On a chilly day in early April, we ducked into Ay Jalisco, not certain what we would find so far north of the border. I mean, we’re in IOWA. What a wonderful surprise to find such tasty Mexican food! So fresh! The salads were crisp. The hot food was hot. My wife had the Huevos Rancheros and I ordered the same, but with chorizo instead. Great meal. Excellent service. Highly recommend this if you come to Forest City, Iowa (the home of Winnebago campers). We come each year for a checkup on our Winnebago, so we will be back for another meal at Ay Jalisco! Oh! I forgot the Tacos Carnitas! Muy Bueno! UPDATE! We returned for two more meals during this same visit to Forest City. Same great good. Same great service. I added pix of the Fajita Salad, the Chili Relleno, and the Chicken Fajitas. Wonder

The steak in the burrito tasted rancid. I immediately spit it out. I told the waitress and she said it was the marinade (which I don’t believe) and offered to bring something else. Against my better judgement I ordered pork tacos. When they came the cilantro on top was slimy and rotten. I didn’t even take a bite bc at this point I had no appetite. After reading some of the other reviews about this place I am praying the rest of my family doesn’t get food poisoning. 😕

Waited 20 minutes to get our drink order taken. An hour later food finally comes out. Everything is ice cold. Fajitas are ice cold, where does that happen? Not only that it’s half a plate for $15. Told the waitress and she walks off with it and says “I’ll take it off”. Terrible service. Been over 5 minutes since they brought out 2 plates and we’re still waiting on the 3rd. This place used to be good but has gone downhill significantly in the last year.

Rice and beans were reheated in a microwave in the to go tray, you could tell. The chimichanga was fire though, and the Pico was very tasty.
