I've been coming to Astra for their holiday tea for years, and it's always a really special treat at the end of the year. It's a chance to relax with a pot of tea, enjoy some delicious sweet and savory bites and enjoy a couple hours relaxing. Service is really top notch. This year Asesh was taking care of my table- there's another longtime waiter who's covered afternoon tea in years past- and the service was seamless. You can expect warm, thoughtful service, and Asesh made sure we had everything we needed, from explaining all the different offerings on the tea caddy, to setting our tea timers so the flavors were optimal (some teas oxidize and turn bitter if they steep too long). I have some food allergies/ dietary restrictions, which he noted and rechecked, which I really appreciate. Somet
Very stylish restaurant at the ground floor of the luxury St.Regis SF hotel. Located to the left of the hotel lobby, entry is also possible directly from the street side. Very convenient place in the SoMa district. Beautiful interior and decor with a nice festive season touch. Flower decoration with orchids on every table. The seating space is shared with the St.Regis bar. We came in for breakfast during our hotel stay. Busy on a saturday morning, but seated almost immediately. Welcoming, helpful and very polished staff throughout. Iced water served quickly while we chose from the breakfast menu. Top quality, great breakfast menu. Our drink and food choices were served within minutes. Nicely plated, great flavors. Highly recommended, for a celebration, for a breakfast / lunch / brunch / di
I stayed at the hotel for a few days, so on the first night of a long travel day I decided to head downstairs to eat at Astra. There was a small crowd onsite with most sitting nearer the television to catch the World Series. I was greeted by the host and my server — service was good the whole night. For sipping, I had a Smoked Oaxacan, which was well executed! Now, I am excited after service and drink hitting on all cylinders. When the server confirms the beef short rib is tender my tastebuds started to pre-salivate. I go all in and order the short rib with a side of mushrooms. It sounds good, right? Someone forgot to telll the chef it was sold as “delicious”. Well, the beef was tender when cutting but it lacked flavor and parts of it was on the dry side. The mushrooms were bland
I and a friend had lunch at Astra for SF Week. I ordered the Restaurant week menu (2 courses for $45). At the beginning of the experience, we were placed at a booth right near the kitchen door and next to a family of 4 with small noisy children. The dining room was empty except for one couple and a solo diner. I had entered notes when I made my Restaurant Week reservation. With what the hostess gave us, I asked to move tables to the opposite wall. Thank goodness I did because the children were just too loud and distracting. About my meal: The starter of gem lettuce salad, cheese, slices chilis and cilantro dressing was delicious. The second course of Ora Salmon from New Zealand was off. It seemed as if the chef blow torched the salmon exterior but left it uncooked. There was quinoa, caulif
Went for SF Restaurant Week! One of my least favourite restaurant picks tbh. It's all gimmick, instagrammable but the food is so basic and bland. Went with the Lumache cacio e pepe, and it was just regular pasta. Nothing here is worth the price, and the gem lettuce salad? The out a hunk of lettuce on the plate and sprinkled grated cheese on it. Not impressed
