When I go to a hawaiian themed resto, my go-to is the classic and ubiquitous loco moco. Its a simple dish of hamburger patties over a bed of rice. Served with sauteed or grilled onions and liberally covered with peppery flavorful brown gravy. Finally its topped with fried eggs (I prefer over-easy but traditionally its sunny-side up). This was a very good rendition of loco moco far from the island. But there was too much gravy for my liking; sometimes less is more! And the over easy eggs were actually over-hard. Nonetheless, still a very satisfying dish. The place accomodates large parties and I presume there is entertainment on weekend evenings.
Honestly this place is a very nice vibe! The Hawaiian scenery inside is a nice touch and the service was so nice! Our first appetizer with the spicy tuna onigiri was really realllyygy good but then with our entrees, it didn't taste that good. We ordered the Penang Curry and the regular chicken plate. The chicken tasted like it was boiled in the sauce instead of seared and then simmered and it just didn't have the punch of flavor like it said. I would say this place is more Thai or Chinese style cooking rather than Hawaiian so if you go here expect that but everything still LOOKED good. They were able to refund our entrees after we only took a few bites but we still paid for our appetizer so that was really nice of them. Like I said, the service was still perfect and they were really nice.
My family and I have been coming here since 2021. The service is always great! They're all friendly and very attentive each and everytime! Absolutely amazing atmosphere and ambiance from the lighting, to the music, to the decor. The food is delicious! My personal favorite is the pork belly tacos and the Bird of Paradise cocktail (mango colada). So good! 😋
Fantastic Food and Drinks. Everything we ate tasted fantastic and our Pina Colada's were amazing! The tiki cups for sale at the front are pretty tacky though and some things hanging by the windows needed to be dusted. Would gladly eat here again.
If you are considering eating here, do it. This was genuinely one of my best meals that I had in my trip to Chicago. The service was so amazing and the food was top tier. The portions are also big which I appreciate so much. I would definitely recommend going here with a group of friends (or alone) because the interior is also so fun! I will definitely be visiting again!
