Really nice restaurant for really good Mexican food. Found this spot online searching for good places to eat and this did the job. Here are some of my thoughts: Environment Fun and vibrant space with space for dining and a long bar that takes a up much of the space. It was pretty busy when we arrived for dinner on a Saturday night but not too packed or loud. Not a ton of seating so reservations are probably the best if you want to make sure you have somewhere to sit. There is also outside seating that would be great for when the weather breaks. The cool art on the walls adds to the ambiance and the vibe. Service This is your normal dining experience - sit and be served. They also have a full bar that you can order from if you're not interested in sitting at a booth. The service was fine.
I enjoyed my dinner here! The menu has a lot of seafood options, I will definitely be going back to check out their ceviches and pizzas. The restaurant is pretty small, but the decor was beautiful, clean, and we had great service. Also, the tacos were very filling!
Unique gem among several Mexican restaurants within a few blocks. Anafre offers a refreshing seafood tilt to widely known Mexican fare. Their food is unique, well presented, and super tasty. Their seafood is super fresh. This was our second visit and we loved everything, again. The octopus pizza was delicious and had a generous portion of octopus. I found it super filling with the cheese, veggies, and octopus. Their fish tacos were equally good. Generous portion of fish. The guac has a few pieces of lobster on top. Everything tastes so fresh. Service is friendly and efficient. Will gladly return to try other options on their menu.
We were underwhelmed when entering the restaurant. It has a bar down most of one side with booths lining the opposite side. Perhaps if there are more customers present it would present a better atmosphere. However, the food was delicious. Our party of 3 enjoyed 2 appetizers, the Oysters Al Carbon and Shrimp and Chorizo Queso. Both were tasty although I would have preferred chips with the queso instead of the soft tortillas. We each ordered different entrees. All were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the Baja California Taco much more than the Chicken Mole Taco. Service was slow but friendly. Dinner was okay, but we probably won't go back.
Best place for Mexican sea food in DC so far. Besides the vibrant ambiance and the drinks and tacos, a noteworthy mention has to be made for the ceviche and aguachile. The ceviche is a dish shared with other cultures, but the aguachile - which is more raw, juicier, and spicier than a ceviche - is endemic to Mexican culture and Anafre comes as close as can be to nailing it.
