American Fork Library

In July 2025, we visited the American Fork Library in American Fork, Utah. This library building is beautiful with red brick, natural sunlight, stained glass, artwork, and other decorations. The library staff is helpful and friendly. We went during the week-long American Fork Steel Day festival, and we saw what remained of the art show. The art show ended that day, and the local artists had already started to gather their art items. The American Fork Library serves the needs of the local citizens very well. We are fortunate to have this great library in American Fork.

I stopped in for the free WiFi. This little Library is tucked away in the neighborhood and conveniently connects to a little park with plenty of space to run with a covered eating area and playground equipment. The library was very quiet which made it convenient to work in. It sound like the library also doubles as a learning center which is cool. I sat on the upper floor where there was individual cubicles to work from. There was also multiple rest areas with couches and cushioned chairs if you want to take a break. The views of the snow capped mountains from the upper level windows was a nice addition. The staff was super kind and friendly.

They have a nice selection of books, computers and printers available but we use them most often for their childrens section. They have nice little areas set up around the book stacks for kids to sit and read, play at a mock theater, play kitchen, and kits and toys they can use. There is a great section for coloring and crafts that has plenty of chairs and tables. We attend bouncing babies twice a week and Miss Kathleen is an absolute gem. She is kind and matronly and is great at putting the kids at ease. She runs a wonderful program that engages the kids in several ways and my 1 and 3 year old adore it. I have come to this library for the last 15 years. I feel they care for the community and try to support our kids education through a number of initiatives. I appreciate the academic support. The reason why I am leaving 2 stars had to do with some of the books they carry and display in the little kids section. Imagine reading to your child: “ Your mom and dad made a guess on your gender based on what you look like but that is not who you are” I was very disappointed by that. A library should be based on educational materials and not propaganda. Our kids need to learn math, LA, science, arts and not indoctrination.

Encountering condescending and rude workers at a library is wild. I've never been treated with such attitude and unwelcome-ness than at the American Fork library and will happily share how awful of an experience I had here. When I visited this library, I did not have a library card yet so I assumed all libraries in Utah had a shared membership/library card system, but I was wrong. The lady at the front desk sternly told me that I had to be an American Fork resident without even knowing if I lived in AF or not. Humble yourself, "Mormon Deborah", you work at a library, not Vogue headquarters.
