Alees Café

We visited Alees Café in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and I honestly don’t understand how it holds such a high rating. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. The food was incredibly bland — so bland that there was almost no flavor at all. We ordered the lentil soup with za’atar, and it tasted like plain boiled lentils with barely any seasoning. I would rate it 2/10. We also tried the chicken shawarma platter, and the chicken had almost no flavor whatsoever — not even the natural taste of the meat came through. That dish was around 3/10. It appears to be a small, family-owned restaurant, and we really wanted to like it, especially given its reputation. However, the food fell far below expectations. We were on a weekend away and found Alee s Cafe while searching for a tasty place to eat. Mediterranean was our preference and this was an excellent choice. Alee was the perfect host, friendly and helpful and the food was authentic and so delicious. The cafe was cozy, with attractive artwork and a small well stocked grocery section. We had the most enjoyable lunch!

First time eating here and enjoyed it. Chicken shawarma platter was excellent. Just started eating more of a mediterranean diet, and wanted to try this out. The tastes and seasons blended well and weren't overpowering. Definitely trying more of what they have to offer.

I've stopped now two times and each time has been positively spectacular! I stopped in last Saturday and this one as well. Last Saturday I opted to dine in while I was running errands. I met alees and he was just so passionate about his food and truly the brightest part of that day for me. I got a gyro wrap and a pudding and he checked on me through my dining experience. He told me about his products and where he sources them from. I loved it! Today I opted for takeout and I tried the hummus platter this time and I grabbed some fresh feta in the cooler from Bulgaria 🤎it was once again absolutely scrumptious!

Be warned: ask about their Door Dash orders, which take precedence over in-person diners. We were one of three tables, and they hadn’t even started our order after more than 45 minutes - not even our hummus appetizer. Cancelled our order. Food looks good but we didn’t get the chance to taste. So disappointing and still hungry!
