Airport Restaurant & Lounge

What makes the Airport Restaurant & Lounge enjoyable isn’t just the food -- it’s the décor, which seems to have been sealed in amber sometime in the 1970s, perhaps even earlier. One can almost hear The Eagles or Gordon Lightfoot drifting from a distant AM radio, as if nothing here has hurried to catch up with the present. As for the meal, the pinto bean soup was genuine comfort food -- simple, hearty, and unpretentious. They claim their chili is even better, and based on that soup, I can believe it. The place is small and not exactly a “lounge” in the modern sense, but if you’re waiting on a flight -- or waiting for friends or family to arrive -- it’s a surprisingly great spot to sit, breathe, and take a break from the usual airport chaos.

Those pancakes! Big and fluffy and delicious. Biscuits and gravy are also really good.
