Abraham Bagel

Since I was 4 years old in 1980, I have always believed Western Bagel to be the best bagel in the Los Angeles area (and possibly the world). But random happenstance had me doing business on this particular block of Ventura Blvd and craving a bagel at the same time. I went into Abraham bagel and ordered my favorite, the onion bagel. It is difficult to explain the experience; bagels are 80% texture. And Abraham Bagel wasn't just better than Western Bagel. It was a unique, interesting texture that I'd never experienced in a bagel before. A little bit harder than the Western, but also in this zone of perfection. This bagel that I ate forced me to re-evaluate my bagel scale. I am in awe.

Interesting how I’ve seen reviews that state these are ok for LA but just ok for NYC. I think these are great bagels and I’ve had worse. I’d be curious to taste a “real” NYC bagel. Today was an onion with egg and Swiss. Yummy and a fantastic cup of coffee with the option of Oak milk which I appreciate.

Ordered a bagel with lox spread. Bagel was mediocre at best and the spread contained no lox. From the taste and color it seemed like they just used smoked paprika for a slightly smoky taste and orange color. I asked to add a little onion, so on top of the $6 for a bagel with smoked paprika cream cheese, they charged an additional $.95. Terrible experience. Will never go back.

The shop definitely has the vibe of an NYC bagel shop. But the bagels are only ok. Good for LA standards but not particularly impressive, especially considering how expensive this place is.

First time try Abraham Bagel. I had Tribeca Turkey sandwich with plain bagel. Bagel is chewy and sandwich is delicious. Wife had Lox Bagel, and she loved it. Will come back to try other menus.
