Chef Mei Lin’s take on Chinese cuisine that is elevated by paying homage to classic dishes. My favorite dish of the night was the Nam Yu Roasted Chicken. The way it was cooked reminded me of duck and it was so juicy and tender in a velvety sauce full of flavor. For drinks, my favorite was the Martini 88 that is such a unique take on a martini with Chinese mustard greens that pairs very well. Their signature is the Prawn Toast that is super nostalgic and tasty. Small and romantic atmosphere. Service was friendly and super nice too!
Easily the best meal I’ve had in LA. 88 Club in Beverly Hills blew me away, even more the second time around. The vibe is elegant yet welcoming, and every dish felt special. We started with the cucumber mushroom salad, which was so fresh and addictive, followed by the sesame prawn toast absolutely fantastic. The star of the evening, though, was the roasted chicken. It was hands-down the juiciest, most flavorful chicken I’ve ever had. The scallion-ginger sauce that came with it was incredible, and the seasonal fried rice with broccoli was the perfect pairing. The wine selections were spot on and really elevated the whole dinner. Honestly, if you want an unforgettable dining experience, 88 Club is a must-visit. I can’t wait to go back!
One of my all time favorite restaurants was Nightshade in LA, an unfortunate casualty of Covid. But Chef Mei Lin rallied back with the opening of her new restaurant, the 88 Club. Dark and sensual it's a glamorous take on some traditional Chinese dishes and it certainly "stuck the landing." Some menu highlights are the Sesame Prawn toast, Fish Fragrant eggplant and the Nam Yu roasted chicken that feels like a rich bow to Peking Duck. We ended with black sesame ice cream and were so pleased we saved the room. It's a meal for a date to impress since cost can't be a concern. The service was outstanding and the vibe, well it is in Beverly Hills.
Having been a big fan of Mei Lin ever since her Top Chef days, and after being so heartbroken that Nightshade closed, I was beyond excited to hear about her new venture, 88 Club. However, my experience on 4/3/25 left me and my party of 4 disappointed. Perhaps we will revisit when things start to run more smoothly, with time and continued staff training. SERVICE/AMBIANCE: 2/5 We had a reservation, but still waited awkwardly in the doorway (no other place we were told to wait) for at least a few minutes, blocking other patrons from entering. The host was completely zoned out and gestured vaguely after a few minutes, and as we started walking towards the table, we realized he was talking to another party. Some communication would have been nice, and maybe he could have had us wait in the adj
The service at 88 Club was exceptionally hospitable and the drinks were spot-on. The decor is dark, moody, cool and incredibly cozy—perfect for a date night or outing with friends. This upscale spot offers elevated Chinese dishes in a tucked-away Beverly Hills location that's easy to love. We tried: Jelly Noodles: Spicy, flavorful, and delicious—my second-favorite bite of the night. Prawn Toast: Super unique with the prawns tucked inside the toast. I see why it's a standout signature dish! Beef Chow Mein: Hands down my favorite—absolutely delicious. Peppered Steak: This one didn't quite hit the mark for us; it fell a bit short compared to a great homemade steak. Fried Rice: Solid but straightforward—nothing extraordinary, just a reliable side. Maitake: Deep-fried mushrooms done right—you
