1898 Burgers N Shakes

Located just off Skagway’s main tourist strip, 1898 Burger and Shakes is a bit more tucked away — which makes it a nice escape from the crowds. It feels like a bit of a hidden gem, even if the atmosphere is nothing fancy. The space is clean but small and pretty plain, so I’d rate the ambiance 3 out of 5. The service was great — friendly and helpful staff who made the experience pleasant. I tried the rhubarb shake because it was something unique, but unfortunately, it didn’t work for me at all. It might be a local thing, but I personally wouldn’t recommend it. The highlight here is definitely the smash burger — two juicy patties with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and their house sauce. I got the kids burger- very good! My husband got the burger that had some type of salmon sauce. He said it was really good. Everything was fresh and it was very clean inside. Jacob took our order and had great and friendly customer service. Klondike bikes recommended them after our ride. 👍🏼 forgot to take a picture before we started digging in.

This was a fun little burger place that packed a big punch. The double burger and fries we got were insanely good. The burger was super juicy and the bun was able to withstand it even with the dripping cheese. My mouth is still watering from the photos. The fries were a refreshing take from the rest in town with a dash of pepper on top. The special spread that you can opt for was good, however, we did not opt for it on our burgers. Seating was a little tight (3 tables inside) but they do have a fenced in patio out back that we noticed after we ate. The staff was friendly, even with us waiting for them to open. It was worth the wait. The food also came out really quick with no complaints. One of my favorite food choices of the entire trip.

Easily one of the best burgers I've had in my life! The double smash especially the OG was definitely the way to go! Even the fries had a good seasoning to them and the sauce to dip them in was killer as well! All around an amazing experience

Great place. The beef was perfectly smashed, and their burger sauce is outstanding. They do it right; you can tell it's a labor of love. I am a fan of Red and his team! It was a great find while visiting Skagway.
